Story Fields at Hello Babies!

.
Last Saturday I enjoyed the pleasure of sharing the End of the year Celebration with Mariela Salto and all her babies at Pequeña Sociedad in Belgrano neighbourhood, where Mariel runs Hello Babies! teaching English through the ALL English for Babies methodology.

The event was simply wonderful: babies and young kids, mums and dads, siblings, grannies and grandpas, aunts and uncles, everyone joining in, listening to my stories, singing, dancing and playing with colour lights and bubbles. It was a real PARTY! There were raffles at the end, and Reading Thinks was present with a lovely Book Fair.

I was blessed with the presence, support and help of my husband and daughters, which was a treat to my sould and heart! And I was also delighted to meet old friends of mine and their families there. Maria Marta and Grace, Franco and his wife and sweet Valen: it was great to share this morning with you ALL!

But, above all, there was love and sharing, and tears of gratitude and hugs, and all these wonderful presents made it a true celebration!

Thank you all for having me there, and especailly, of course, thank you Mariel for your generosity and love!

Happy Spring!!!

.

To a Butterfly
by William Wordsworth, The Eternal Romantic

STAY NEAR me - do not take thy flight!
A little longer stay in sight!
Much converse do I find in thee,
Historian of my infancy!
Float near me; do not yet depart!
Dead times revive in thee:
Thou bring'st, gay creatue as thou art!
A solemn image to my heart,
My father's family!

Oh! pleasant, pleasant were the days,
The time, when in our childish plays,
My sister Emmeline and I
Together chased the butterfly!
A very hunter did I rush
Upon the prey; - with leaps and springs
I followed on from brake to bush;
But she, God love her! feared to brush
The dust from off its wings.

Teacher's Day Celebration at Asoc. de Ex-alumnas del Lenguas Vivas

.
.
Last Friday evening I was honoured to be part of this traditional celebration, where teachers and students of different foreign languages and from different places in Argentina, get together to receive prizes, to share part of the work they have done during the year and to enjoy Teacher's Day together.

The event began with some of the teachers dressed as courtesans greeting guests, who were then invited to look through a room where students' work was exhibited. After that some very moving words were spoken by the leaders of the Asociacion, videos with stds' work were shown, and then I shared some stories together with a lovely audience. We finished the evening with a delicious toast and celebration.

Thank you all very much for the invitation, and for your lovely feedback at the end of my presentation. A special word of gratitude and admiration for her work to Myrian Casamassima, who was in charge of the event.

Happy teacher's day!

Happy Teacher's Day!

.
To enjoy our day together, I would like to share a very special poem with you. It is called Teachers and it was written by Roger Stevens. This lovely poem, together with many others, is published in The Truth about Teachers, a book full of hilarious rhymes by Paul Cookson, David Harmer, Brian Moses and Roger Stevens. (Thank you guys!
I love them all!)

According to the autors, this book will make you laugh your socks off! And I just could not agree more! Enjoy the poem, enjoy your day and enjoy what you have chosen to do with your life:
enjoy being a TEACHER!

TEACHERS
by Roger Stevens

Teachers are happy
All of the while
Teachers are cheery
Teachers all smile
Teachers have eyes
In the back of their heads
Teachers remember
The good things you said
Teachers are friendly
Teachers are kind
Teachers can always
See into your mind
Teachers will help
If you're stuck with your sums
Teachers like stillness
But not wriggle-bums
Teachers are visitors
From outer space
Teachers play Scrabble
But never kiss chase
Teachers like writing
Their writing is neat
Teachers are honest
Teachers don't cheat
Teachers walk or ride bikes
(They don't have much choice
They can't afford cars
And they'd love a Rolls-Royce)
Teachers eat salad
And stinky old cheese
Teachers have patches on jackets
And knees
Teachers are fair
Though they can give cross looks
Teachers have hobbies
They love marking books
I'm glad I'm a teacher
The best in the town
Now open your books
Be quiet
And SIT DOWN!

Springs of Friendship

On this very special day, I would like to share with you all some of my favourite quotes taken from a little and tremendously powerful book called Springs of Frienship.

I trully hope you can enjoy them and share them so that they fill your hearts and souls, as well as those of your friends.

Story Fields at Children's School

For the second year running I was warmly welcomed by Children's School community two weeks ago, as part of their yearly book fair, which this year was called: Stories around the World.

I shared some very nice stories to illustrate the topic of this year's fair, with students from 1st to 7th grade. We enjoyed two lovely afternoons together, and it was great to be greeted by familiar faces!

All the kids who met me last year remembered me, my toys and my stories! Some of them even remembered some of the lines from the stories and went as far as to ask for a replay of their favourite one from last year! Fantastic!

I want to thank the whole community for their trust, support, warmth and cooperation. First and foremost, the kids, who were absolutely amazing; the English Coordinator, Marcia Kent, who was, as usual, extremely helpful and nice; all the teachers who shared the sessions with me and their students, for their support, engagement and help; and the technicians who helped me have everything ready.

All in all, thank you Children's School for a lovely storytelling experience!

Books here, books there, books everywhere!

.
Wherever I look, whenever I turn around, I find myself surrounded by books, and of course, by stories. And this is simply great!

We celebrated the International Book Day and Languages Day last Saturday; many of the schools I know and I usually "story-visit" are hosting their own book fairs (great for them!); La Feria de Libro de Buenos Aires has opened its doors to visitors of all ages and nationalities; and Buenos Aires has been declared "La Capital Mundial del Libro."

What a lot of great chances to inspire those around us with books and stories! And what a great chance to get together and READ! Do it with your kids, friends, students, colleagues! Do it with everybody!

To celebrate reading, and books, and stories in this special month, here go a few quotes on the topic: food for thought!

Everyone has a story to tell

.
"Everyone has a story to tell. And while we could spend a lifetime learning the art and technique of storytelling - perfecting our style and performance - for most of us, it is the simple telling of a tale that's important. Something as ordinary as the events of the day, an old joke, or a traditional story we heard as a child. Storytelling comes from the heart, not the head, and nothing should keep us from the exhilaration and sheer pleasure of telling a story."

- Jimmy 'Nell Smith,
Homespun: Tales from America's Favourite Storytellers
.
.
Having this wonderful idea and quote in mind, indulge yourself in the pleasure of sharing a story with your students. Maybe today, maybe tomorrow, maybe every day of the week. Just engage your heart in the telling, and let yourself go!
.
Enjoy and share.
.
Have a wonderful storytelling week.

All you need is LOVE... all you need is LOVE....

.
I am glad to say I have decided to get together with you again and start sharing this new year on a very special day: Valentine's Day!

So, Happy Valentine to you all!!!

Leaving aside the commercial value this special day may have to some people, I just want to share a very special phrase with you. This quote is by Luciano De Crescenzo, the late Italian writer, engineer and actor. And it goes like this:

We are each of us angels
with only one wing,
and we can only fly
by embracing
one another

So when you get home tonight, or maybe on the way, why not?, get hold of a one-winged angel, just like yourself, embrace one another, and celebrate Valentine's Day!

Cheers to love, family and friends!!!
